What Is Schuylkill On The Move?

Schuylkill on the Move is a Healthy Schuylkill Communities project and county-wide grassroots organization of individuals and other organizations who have an interest in promoting health and fitness through walking, biking, and wheeling.

Schuylkill Connect's Goal

Our healthy walking and exercise goals for Schuylkill County's community includes:

  • Assisting local communities with establishing walk, bike, and wheel programs for their residents.
  • Advocating for walkable/bikeable communities
  • Encouraging people to take positive steps towards good health.

Schuylkill on the Move promotes Schuylkill Connects and partners' events all year round. Learn more about partner events below.

1. WalkWorks

WalkWorks is an initiative between the Pennsylvania Department of Health and the Pennsylvania Downtown Center that supports the development and adoption of active transportation plans or related policies. Its mission is to increase access and opportunities for physical activities, such as walking, biking, wheeling, and using public transit.

2. Schuylkill Girls Who Walk

Schuylkill Girls Who Walk was established to help create a safe community for all of those who want to walk, talk, and get outside.

3. Walks With Porcupine Pat

Check our events calendar or Sweet Arrow Lake's site for hikes with Porcupine Pat's different hikes, walks and programs at Sweet Arrow Lake.

4. Frog Hollow Nature Area Walks

There are occasional led walks at 170 Stone Mountain Road, just outside of Friedensburg. These are organized and run by Friends of Frog Hollow.

5. Walk Saint Clair!

Walking program in the borough of Saint Clair, Pennsylvania. All walks are open to the general public. Walks are held April through November. https://www.facebook.com/walksaintclair

    Find a walking club or group in your area:

    Diakon Living and Learning After 50

    Looking to keep moving no matter what the weather outside is like? Enjoy the benefits of indoor walking and the company of other walkers at one of our walking clubs! Improve your endurance, balance, strength and walking pace while avoiding weather interruptions and uneven surfaces.
    There is no charge, and is available for ages 50+ at all fitness levels! See below for specific times and locations for each community.

    Times and locations:

    • SCHUYLKILL HAVEN - Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8:30-9:30 A.M. at the Schuylkill Haven Recreation Center gymnasium.
    • TREMONT - Walking is permissible Monday – Friday from 9:30-10:30 A.M. at the Tremont Borough Building gymnasium and there is no charge.
    • POTTSVILLE - Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Fairlane Village Mall in Pottsville (Center Court).
    • FRACKVILLE - Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Frackville Borough Building Gym.
    • MCADOO - Tuesdays from 11:00-noon at the All Saints Church gymnasium, 17 N Cleveland St. There is no charge.
    • MOUNTAINSIDE - Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Mountainside Community Center gymnasium, 1152 W Mountain Road, Sacramento PA 17968.
    • SHENANDOAH - Mondays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Shenandoah Area Senior Citizens building, 225 N Market St.
    • TAMAQUA - Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Perla Enterprise Building Gymnasium (former Salvation Army location), 105 W Broad Street in Tamaqua
    • MAHANOY - Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the Mahanoy City Senior Community Center

    Mountainside Community Center's Senior Walking and Exercise Club

    This club is for ages 50+ and will meet every Monday and Wednesday from 10a-11a at Mountainside Community Center. Enjoy the even walking surface and comfortable setting, all while improving your endurance and walking pace! We also added in balance, strength and flexibility exercises included in the routine!

    This is a free club, but donations are welcomed! If you have any questions, please reach out to Mountainsidecc@gmail.com.
