Happy Groundhog Day!

This morning Phil didn’t see his shadow, which predicts an early spring…let’s see if Mother Nature agrees!

Lehigh Valley Health System is holding Punxsutawney Phil to it and putting him to work during Heart Health Month. Check out this fun and informative article from LVHN.

Schuylkill On The Move

Let us introduce to you one of the projects under our Healthy Schuylkill Communities Program. Schuylkill on the Move’s mission is to increase access and opportunities for physical activity, specifically walking, biking, and wheeling.

The goals include:

  • Assisting local communities with establishing walk, bike, and wheel programs for their residents.
  • Advocating for walkable/bikeable communities
  • Encouraging people to take positive steps towards good health.

These are the longstanding goals, but we are redirecting our attention from focusing primarily on walking groups to the first two goals that lead to sustainable change in communities to make them more walk, bike, and wheelchair friendly through policy adoption and built environment change.

Keep an eye on our webpage for more information. Would you like to volunteer with VISION to conduct walk audits, assist with bike rodeos/traffic gardens, or lead community walks/bike rides? Register to be notified on our Volunteer Page.

Power of Partnership

VISION is a small office (currently of one) and we cannot do it alone. Our mission is to connect resources in Schuylkill County, and we most frequently do that through collaboration. This can look like many things: sitting on committees, providing feedback, sharing resources, promoting each other’s projects, and more. Check out a few of this month’s partner collabs, projects, and requests.

Schuylkill County HIVE

Things have been buzzing with our partners, Schuylkill United Way, Schuylkill Community Action, and Tamaqua Area Community Partnership and we are excited to bring these gathering opportunities for human service organizations working in Schuylkill County! Kudos to Becky Woods at SUW for taking on a brunt of this work and bringing it to fruition!

Schuylkill County Human Services Adult Survey

Schuylkill County Drug and Alcohol Program survey to provide some feedback on services in Schuylkill County and also on perception of risk of substance use by youth. Anyone who is 18 years or older, and lives or goes to school in Schuylkill County can take the survey. It will remain open until June 30, 2024.
