The former Motor Vehicle Safety Coalition was established by VISION (now known as Connects) in 2013, following a Community Health Needs Assessment conducted by Lehigh Valley Health Network (formerly Schuylkill Health). The assessment identified the county’s motor vehicle death rate as a high-priority health concern.
In 2014 and 2015, the Coalition partnered with local high schools to launch a program emphasizing the dangers of texting and driving. These messages were delivered during fall high school football games, reaching audiences of up to 15,000 people each weekend.
Presenting the message at football games created a powerful visual: a demonstration showing that a driver traveling 50 mph while sending a text would cover the length of a football field without looking at the road. The campaign’s slogan—“Arrive Alive, Don’t Text and Drive”—became the foundation for a variety of outreach efforts. Public service announcements, billboards, school morning messages, editorials, and even football game cheers helped drive the message home. The campaign sparked meaningful conversations throughout the community.
Each year, the initiative continued with new themes and updated materials to keep the message fresh and relevant.
In 2021, a new partnership was formed with Schuylkill Technology Center’s marketing program. Students played an active role in creating graphics and developing content for social media, further expanding the campaign’s reach and impact.

This project was conducted in collaboration with Highway Safety Network, Schuylkill Technology Center, and Schuylkill County Youth Summit and made possible through funding provided by State Farm and Youth Summit.
